It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realise they were the big things" - Robert Brault.
I wanted to share this quote with you, I love this time of year and it really makes me think about what's important in life. Simple things like decorating the Christmas tree with my son make me so happy. I love getting out in the snow and enjoying the Christmas vibe around the place (and eating a few too many mince pies).

I've been busy starting to prepare for Christmas and haven't really been doing much new work in terms of drawing and painting. I've been making salt dough decorations to paint with the nursery though - its the first time I've used salt dough and it's really easy- just mix one cup salt, one cup water and two cups plain flour and hey presto!

You can use cookie cutters to create shapes in the dough and then just let them dry for around 48 hours. I've painted these ones with acrylic paint and then decorated them with sequins, mini pompoms and glitter and finished them off with ribbons to hang.

I'll get back into the swing of things with my own work after the Christmas period is over, I like starting new work in the new year. I'll not be updating my etsy shop for a while but have reduced one or two items to $5, just to have a little bit of a clear out. I think it's good to take a break away for a while anyhow and come back with a fresh eye. Hope you are all getting on well with the Christmas preparations and starting to get that holiday feeling.

  1. Yvonne, I love your homemade decorations! I have to try to make some crows ;o) They look so adorable and fun to make! We have all our decorations up, but there is no snow yet ;o( Weird this year!! I have to admit, I still keep painting, when I have time. Merry Christmas ;o)

  2. Glad you like them Stacy, they are really fun to make! Salt dough crows sound like a fab idea, I'd love to see them. We've only had a little bit of snow and it went away pretty quickly, I'm in Scotland and got hit with the bad winds yesterday though. I do like the snow, just not so much when I need to do any amount of travelling. Hope you have a great Christmas too xx
