Happy New Year

Happy New Year everyone! It's a chilly, rainy 1st of January here in Scotland. I think it's going to be a quiet day at home with lots of chocolate, tea and a little drawing. I'll share some artwork with you...

A Nip In The Air

It's very chilly here at the moment and we definitely feel like we are well on the way towards winter. I quite like this time of year, when the leaves fall of the trees and you can walk along crunching them in the cold autumn air. My wardrobe agrees with me and around 70% of my clothes are winter clothes, I love knitwear, boots and wool coats. Halloween and Guy Fawkes are always exciting too- my son has his skeleton costume lined up for the Halloween party and we have a pumpkin just waiting to be carved. Last year we went to a huge fireworks display on the 5th November so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a similar event nearby this year.

In terms of new work I have been creating a few new ACEOs lately that I wanted to share with you- with quite a winter theme.

I hope you like them, they are still quite light and whimsical but with a slightly chilly feel. I'm not sure what I was thinking with the last one but she made me laugh when I saw her appear on the paper- I thought where did you come from running round like that in the cold, but she seems quite pleased with herself!

All these ACEOs are available in my etsy shop and at the moment, for a limited time (until I run out, I only have a few) with each order in my shop I will pop in a free surprise Christmas card and matching envelope- just mention the offer on etsy at time of order- It doesn't matter how much the spend.

Artwork for Angels

Ambers Angel World is a charity providing support to bereaved families who have lost a baby, infant or have miscarried. I was recently contacted by Ambers Angel World to see if I could donate some artwork for an upcoming auction they are having to raise funds. I completed three illustrations that I will send to them and thought you might like a look before I post them off.

New Ladies

Just a little post to show you some of the new illustrations I've been working on. Mainly a collection of little ladies, experimenting with expression as you know I like to do. I've had a couple of custom orders lately creating these little ladies to certain styles- if you have anyone in mind I'd be happy to create one for you, from ACEO's to A4. All of the artwork shown below is available for sale in my etsy shop.

ACEO Love

I've spent the last couple of days making some new ACEO's, I really enjoy making ACEO's - I love working on a small scale and I can be quite spontaneous with them. I make them by painting out a background in gouache then drawing on top with ink before putting in any solid areas of gouache and finally adding pen and pencil detail.

Here are a couple of the final ACEO's I made and below shows a little bit of the chaos that goes into making them ;0)

These ACEOs are both for sale in my etsy shop and I also have an offer in my shop at the moment where you can buy an A4, A5 or A6 original illustration and get another one free - just until November 11th.

The Bow Tree - Babiekins Magazine

A few weeks ago I created a set of six illustrations for a short story called 'The Bow Tree', the story was for Babiekins Magazine Issue 6, which came out today. It's a fun little story about a tree that grows little bows and they end up in some unusual places.

Babiekins is a gorgeous magazine with stunning photography, I am very happy to be part of this issue. I hope you enjoy the story, if you look through the table of contents you can click on 'The Bow Tree' to see my illustrations.

Mystery Miss Teri

As I approached the castle gates I could see Miss Teri standing in the distance, what was that expression she wore - sadness, confusion? Why did she want to see me after all this time, I thought we would never meet again. I knew I had to go, had to see her, after all we shared a secret that tied us both together, forever.

This illustration and the snippet of a story above is my submission to Imaginary Rabbits. Imaginary Rabbits is a narrative and illustrative collaboration involving experimenting with character design. The idea is to to make up a character and a little bit of a story to go with it - check out the blog for some great submissions.

Face Off

Here is my submission for Face Off Zine - a new zine which looks at the world of visual identity, disguise and alter egos. My illustration for the zine looks at disguise, I focused on the smile and how this can be used as an everyday disguise.

I'm going to let you know more about a collaboration I'm involved with in the near future but for a little look ahead why not head over the the Art School Grad blog and check out the creature collaboration post- very exciting!

Also I've not forgotten about the accessories I previously mentioned but I am currently working on packaging and photography for pocket mirrors, badges and earrings, they will be along very soon.

Work in Progress

I've been busy this week drawing out little characters in an ugly, cute fashion- mainly rabbits, cats, owls, little creatures and girls. I've listed one or two items in my new etsy shop- mostly drawings, illustrations and aceos. I'm not planning on opening a Folksy shop for the time being as its one step at a time and I have a lot of work ahead of me. I really enjoy the layout of etsy with the activity information and the system that is set up when people heart you. Most of my work has been in gouache with pen and ink but I'm also exploring using some acrylic. The pictures below show a couple of my drawings.

The photo below shows my working space at the moment. The house is starting to look like a studio and its been a long time since any food has been eaten off the dinner table!
